We went through a con artist hunt on Instagram and found one!
This gentleman looking human was someone who was following me for a very long time on Instagram and has been sending me messages. He introduced himself as Jeffrey Owen from London and he shared some very traumatic story (actually filmy) on how his wife died in a car accident and how he is a single dad and working in an oil and petroleum company in London (UK) and runs his business.
He also stated that he has a daughter has a daughter who is living with her grandmother (Jeffrey’s mom) in Washington (USA).
He forced me to connect on whatsapp and once we connected, he started telling stories for sharing gifts as his tradition. And took address for sending the same. I knew something was shady, so I gave him the wrong address and he said that he is going to send some gifts, which on picture depicted were- LV handbag, Gucci Handbag, Christian Louboutin footwear and more. When denied to take these expensive things from a stranger, he started saying that he has couriered them and I will have to just pay a small amout to the custom.
It is not the first time someone has been scaming like this, but this is commonly happening as my other lady followers also got his messages, and he told them the same story in different angle and asked them their address for sending gifts.
The scam is, when you will give him the address, you will get a call. I did from the below detail:
A woman with a blend of South Indian and Marathi accent called and told that there is a consignment which has come from London from Jeffery and to get it delivered, I have to send INR 85000/- to the Mumbai Custom Department to the airport. I said share the mail and invoice, the lady did not share the same and when I said this is scam and this man named Jeffrey is a fraud. She said in a strong voice in Hindi “Mjhe nai pata ap kya bol re ho par apko apna parcel recieve krna hai to 80 thousand 500 rupees dena padega varna mai ye parcel police ko handover kr dungi.” (I don’t know what are you talking about but if you will not pay the amount, I will hand over the parcel to police department and they will deal with you). I said fine, and this man has been acting like he knows nothing.
We were being informed about the Facebook and Instagram scam for while and we took this test of examining this man, and he stood out to be the con artist. Kindly note his phone number and pictures and make sure no one makes a fool out of you and scare you because, they don’t have any valid document. They don’t have any email which will come to you. they will communicate with you, connect with you and play with you by saying you need to pay such a big amount to receive the parcel.
