Pre and Post Skincare Routines for Holi
Pre Holi we advise prepping your skin. Face oils or sheet masks offer your skin ample moisturisation and hydration. Sandalwood oil, Rosehip seed oil, Coconut oil are excellent to improve skin elasticity while sheet masks work great for oily skin. This can also be done post-Holi. Additionally, dab a damp cotton ball in freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply it all over your face and wash off once dry. A sunscreen with a good SPF is a must at all times. We also advise products such as BodyCafé Calming Face Mist, BodyCafé Rose Water, BodyCafé Aloe Vera Gel, BodyCafé pore minimising Tea Tree Toner to be incorporated as pre and post-Holi skincare regime.

Some ways to prepare natural packs at home to avoid damage to the skin
The biggest challenge post-Holi is removing the colour stains and dryness. Splash your face with a lot of cold water and apply cleansing milk to remove excess colours. Follow it up with a gentle facial massage with some coconut oil allowing it to sit on your face for a bit and wash off with a mild foaming face wash. Those with acne-prone or oily skin can substitute oil with aloe vera gel. We do not advise exfoliating or using scrubs on the face as it can aggravate any damage or skin irritation. Although we do not recommend scrubs for the face, mild homemade scrubs on the body helps remove colours easily.

Natural Ubtans (homemade packs) help nourish skin from within and regain its PH balance and radiance. Mix 2 tablespoons of turmeric, lemon juice, honey and curd and apply on face and body. Another Ubtan option is applying a paste of lemon juice, ripe papaya, and a spoonful of milk powder. Packs ideally must be kept on for at least 20-25 minutes and rinsed off with cold water. Apply generous amounts of lotion or body butter on the entire body to restore depleted moisture and nourishment. But preparing homemade packs can be time and energy-consuming for which we have options such as BodyCafé Golden Glow Face Mask and BodyCafé Moringa Neem Bentonite Clay Face Pack Powder.

BodyCafé are honoured and privileged to be procuring Lakadong Turmeric from Padma Shri Award Winner Trinity Saioo via Maati Community also known as the Turmeric Lady who spearheads a Women-led turmeric farming movement and has popularized the indigenous Lakadong variety of High Curcumin Turmeric.

Kind of hair care recommended
One of the most common complaints we usually have is excessive hair loss after Holi. Hence, a proper pre and post-Holi Hair care regime are extremely crucial as negligence could lead to scalp irritation, dry or brittle hair and dandruff.
The itching in the scalp is caused due to colour debris and also harsh chemicals present in the colours. Furthermore, we tend to overcompensate by excessively shampooing our hair which shampoos which aggravates hair fall.

We recommend using this hair oil prior to stepping out to play Holi and tie hair in a neat plait or a bun. This step acts as a protective shield on your scalp. Those with extremely sensitive scalp can wear a bandana or a cap.

It is extremely important to rinse all hair colours from scalp and hair with plain water and should you have the challenge of hard water, we strongly recommend using potable water or a shower/tap filter. A mild herbal shampoo is a must to get rid of tiny mica particles. Be extremely gentle when you massage your scalp and your tips. Follow it up with a conditioner and a hair mask. Hair serum is an absolute must.
Mixing a few drops of Vinegar in water and giving it a good rinse adds some extra strength to your hair follicles.

Hair masks that could be applied before playing Holi

Some amazing homemade hair packs include mashing raw bananas with honey and curd or soaked fenugreek seeds in curd. These packs should be applied from roots to the tips and be left for at least 30 minutes followed by a thorough rinse. Mixing a few drops of Vinegar in water and giving it a good rinse adds some extra strength to your hair follicles.
